Local author releases book on W.Va. UFO sightings
It's been said that the state of West Virginia has a long history of unexplained happenings and bizarre sightings of unidentified flying objects. Among these have been high profile incidents such as the famed Braxton County Monster occurrence, the legendary Mothman sightings and the infamous Men in Black investigators that have garnered international attention to the Appalachian Mountains.
A new book written by Mingo native Kyle Lovern: "Appalachian Case Study: UFO Sightings, Alien Encounters and Unexplained Phenomena," published by Woodland Press, LLC, of Chapmanville, examines a number of fresh UFO sightings and alien phenomena. The book, authored by Mingo County resident and UFO enthusiast and researcher Kyle Lovern, documents sixteen UFO accounts and encounters that have taken place in various counties in West Virginia.
"Over the last few years, the author has interviewed many citizens who have experienced strange UFO incidents and other encounters," said Keith Davis, a spokesperson for the independent book publishing firm. "Lovern's in-depth interviews are sometimes eerie and scary and the interviewees offer a great number of details about UFOs and the unexplained."
"This is a subject that I have been fascinated with since I was a youngster growing up at Nolan here in Mingo County. I finally put together some of the accounts people in this region and other parts of West Virginia have shared with me," Lovern said.
There are UFO and extraterrestrial accounts from Logan, Wayne, Mingo, Putnam, Kanawha and other counties.
"These interviews are from credible witnesses, many of them professional people, who have seen UFOs," Lovern said.
There is also an exclusive interview with internationally known physicist and UFOlogist Stanton Friedman. Friedman, often seen on Larry King Live and on UFO Hunters, first received his degrees in physics from the University of Chicago, in 1955 and 1956, and embarked on a fascinating journey that has since impacted conventional wisdom and history. He spent 14 years as a respected nuclear physicist for several of the world's most significant firms.
Since the late 1960s, Friedman's career took on even broader dimensions. He has since taught and lectured at more than seven hundred colleges and universities on a particular topic: "Flying Saucers ARE Real!" As the preeminent researcher and theorist of UFO cases, Friedman has published more than eighty UFO-related scientific papers. Due to his exhaustive research, and society's growing interest in the subject, he's appeared on many radio and television programs. He is an expert on the famed Roswell, New Mexico case.
"Appalachian Case Study: UFO Sightings, Alien Encounters and Unexplained Phenomena," is available at Amazon.com, Woodland — press.com, Border's at the Huntington Mall and at bookstores across the Mountain State and eastern Kentucky.
Lovern has already had book signings in Huntington and Charleston, and hopes to have one in the Tug Valley area soon, he said.
"I am already working on a second book. Since this book was released in late November, I have been contacted by others who have seen an unidentified flying object. If anyone out there has a good story, I would love to hear from them," said Lovern. "They can remain anonymous if they want, I can change the name in the book."
"This time I am including stories from Kentucky and other Appalachian states. Like West Virginia, the Bluegrass State has had some famous and interesting incidents involving UFOs and aliens in the past. I believe there is something to this phenomenon."
Lovern is a longtime journalist and free lance writer, as well as a radio announcer from the Williamson area. He is also a former teacher and coach in Mingo County.
