Woodland Press participates in first Logan County Book Fair
LOGAN, W.Va. – (Fri., Nov. 20, 2009) - Authors, editors, librarians, teachers and book enthusiasts of all ages converged on the county’s three public libraries earlier this week for the Logan County Book Fair. The three-day literary event, a first for this area, was sponsored by the Logan County Commission, Logan County Libraries, and local author Michael Knost, a.k.a. Mike Collins.
Activities kicked off Monday at Buffalo Creek Memorial Library, in South Man, and then continued at the Logan Public Library, at Midelburg Island, on Tuesday, before winding up things at Chapmanville Public Library, at Chapmanville Middle School, on Wednesday.
“This is a great way to celebrate Children’s Book Week,” said Elizabeth Tackett, director of the Buffalo Creek Memorial Library. “It’s always good to see young people interested in books.”
Regional authors took part in panel discussions, readings, and book signings all three days. Students and adults were given an opportunity to ask questions about the writing process, book marketing, and book publishing.
“The County Commission is proud to be a part of these events,” said Commissioner Art Kirkendoll. “We have some of the most talented citizens in the state of West Virginia, and to see them come together to talk about the arts is phenomenal. This first Logan Co. Book Fair was a huge success.”
Participating authors included Michael Knost (Mike Collins), F. Keith Davis, Rebecca Brock, Kyle Lovern, and Jason Keene.
Woodland Press, an independent book publishing company, from Chapmanville, was also invited to participate in the fair, and displayed many of their regional titles at the libraries.
“I want to say thanks to the libraries and the county commission,” said Michael Knost, event coordinator. “These literary events would not have been possible without the tireless help of Elizabeth Tackett, Rebecca Brock, Rebecca Blankenship, Art Kirkendoll, the teachers and principals, and Superintendant of Schools Wilma Zigmond.”
